Microsoft  released a standalone Outlook for Mac Preview version for free, as part of an attempt to gain more feedback on Google account upgrades including Calendar and Contacts integration.

Finally, Microsoft and Google are integrating their services and technologies much better than before.

A preview of the upcoming feature is now available for download, and macOS users can simply install the app to gain access to Google Calendar and Contacts support. You’ll be able to add, delete, and edit events in a Google Calendar through Outlook for Mac. Gmail users will also be able to make use of the Focused Inbox feature in Outlook, and travel booking / package delivery tracking.

The standalone Outlook for Mac Preview will expire on June 30. After that point, people will have to sign up for Office 365.
