Managed active directory domain controllers in Azure gives you directory services for older Windows versions (Windows 7, Windows 8.1, Windows 2012, Linux servers, …) while Windows 10 and Windows Server 2016 should use native Azure Directory and can be managed through Intune and MDM along with other mobile devices (Android, IOS, …). After running for more then a year in preview from October 2016 Active Directory Domain Services are generally available and ready for production deployment for less the €100 per month in most cases and are charged per minute.
